About Me

I have been an officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for 25 years and am currently the Drugs and Organized Crime Awareness Coordinator for the National Capital Region (Ottawa/Gatineau region)

My role and passion is to help young people (and adults) get better informed about issues related to drugs, crime and violence and mobilize them to take an active role in building safer and healthier schools and communities. We want to encourage young people to make a difference in their community by learning and talking about the issues, promoting youth led initiatives and encouraging them and others to collaborate on projects within or outside their community. The Internet is a very powerful tool to help us communicate with and support young people. It is not the technology itself that is important but how we use it and we want to use it to mobilize youth into taking action.

We are inspipred by the slogan is "make it happen". This is to emphasize the fact that we want to empower youth to make a difference and help build a safe and healthy community. We wish to inspire, inform and involve young people, and those supporting young people in making things happen. If we are to be effective in reducing the impact of crime and victimization in schools and within the community, we must get young people involved in the process and recognize that they have a critical role to play in addressing the issues.

By breaking down the traditional barriers and bridging the relationship gap between police and youth, both groups need to work together to tackle the problems of crime, drugs and violence. Police need to capitalize onthe energy and creativity of young people to develop initiatives to help deal issues and build a safe, caring and healthy environment where people can thrive. In turn, young people must look at police as a partner, facilitator and coach to help them take ownership of their school and community.

I may be a balding and aging mountie but I love working with dynamic, motivated and creative young people who keep me young. I have witnessed first hand how youth can change the world and and TIG is one amazing example.

The underlying principal of our work s to promote Crime Prevention through Social Development (CPSD). This concept is about youth mobilization, empowerment through the building of knowledge, competencies and life skills (assets) that will allow for improvement of the social environment in order to reduce crime and victimization. By recognizing and rewarding young people for the amazing things that they do and promoting their contribution in developing their community, we invariably build safer and healthier communities.

As a police officer, I am a social health professional. My job is not simply to enforce the laws of the land but more to facilitate problem-solving issues and promoting healthy choices. As a father of young kids, I want to build an environment where they can thrive, be safe and feel that they are making a contribution. provides me the greatest outlet to have young people shape how material should be delivered to their peers, how problems should be solved and how to bring together all community stakeholders to improve our communities.

I think that TIG is an amazing initiative that helps young people change the world and I want to see young people take a greater role in building their community. I am very proud to be the crime prevention advisor for TIG and will continue to support and promote the organization and youth.
